### Clintons Face Deadline: Comply or Get Hit with Contempt Vote

So, here we go again. House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, have given Bill and Hillary Clinton a hard noon deadline today to cough up details on how they plan to comply with subpoenas from the House Oversight Committee. If they don’t, prepare for the spectacle of a contempt of Congress vote later this week. Because nothing says “we mean business” like a deadline.

Johnson laid it out pretty clearly: “We’re holding off until noon. They have a deadline until noon to work out the details, and if it’s not done satisfactorily, then we’ll proceed with the contempt.” Sounds straightforward enough, right?

The Majority Leader, Steve Scalise, is on the same page. He warned that if the Clintons don’t meet the deadline, the plan is to move ahead with the vote Wednesday, just like they originally intended. The Clintons, however, have been dodging these subpoenas for months, claiming the whole thing is a political witch hunt designed to embarrass them and maybe even land them in prison.

Now, behind the scenes, it seems the Republicans just want to confirm that the Clintons are actually willing to accept the usual terms for their deposition—transcribed and filmed sessions in February, no time limits. But it’s clear they’re a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on those contempt votes just yet. Oversight Chair James Comer still wants to talk to the Clintons, despite their long history of dragging their feet.

Rep. Scott Perry, who kicked off the subpoena requests, put it bluntly: “What we need is a signature on agreeing to terms. I think we should have the deposition, but the contempt resolution needs to hang there and be available until we’re done.” In other words, they want to keep the heat on.

Rep. Kevin Kiley also chimed in, stressing that the threat of contempt has historically been a useful tool to get people to testify. The ultimate goal? Get the Clintons to play ball.

So, there you have it. A classic game of political chicken with a side of drama. Will the Clintons comply? Or will Congress serve up a nice helping of contempt? Stay tuned. It’s always entertaining when the powerful try to dodge the spotlight… until they can’t anymore.
