### American Students Are Tanking in Learning — And It’s Not Just COVID So, the annual Education Scorecard is out, and surprise, surprise, it shows American students are getting dumber. CBS News, in their infinite wisdom, has broken down these results for us, as if we needed someone to spell it out. Let’s get real: we’ve been hearing about the decline in learning for years now, and yet here we are, still pretending it’s just a recent development. The pandemic didn’t help, sure, but claiming that’s the only reason is a convenient excuse. What about the years of declining standards, outdated curricula, and a system that’s more interested in checking boxes than actually educating kids? The report dives into numbers and percentages, painting a grim picture of test scores plummeting like a lead balloon. But here’s the kicker: there’s barely any mention of why this is happening. We’re just supposed to accept that kids aren’t learning as much, and not question the system that’s supposed to be teaching them. So, what’s missing from this whole analysis? How about a real conversation about accountability? Or maybe a look at how teachers and schools are incentivized — or not — to actually improve? But no, let’s just focus on the numbers and leave out the context and accountability. It’s almost like the people reporting on this are more interested in generating clicks than sparking real change. Shocking, right? At this point, you have to wonder: if we keep ignoring the root issues, how much worse can it get before we all just throw our hands up and admit we’ve failed our kids?
