### Trump’s Latest Request: A Short-Term FISA Extension? Good Luck With That. So, President Trump thinks Congress should pass a quick fix for the FISA surveillance law before it goes belly up — you know, the law that lets the government snoop around without a warrant. Apparently, he wants to buy some time for the appointment of a permanent director of national intelligence, which, spoiler alert, he hasn’t actually nominated yet. In a post on Truth Social, Trump made his pitch, asking for a “short-term” extension of the law, which is set to expire this Friday. But let’s be real: just asking for an extension without a solid nominee is like saying you want to go on a diet while sitting in front of a mountain of donuts. Meanwhile, House GOP leaders made their way to the White House for a chat with Trump. They were likely hoping for some clarity on this nomination drama while trying to sign some bills — because, you know, multitasking is hard when you’re busy navigating political egos. But here’s the kicker: many Democrats are saying they won’t play ball until Pulte, Trump’s political buddy, steps down. So, it’s not just about getting a few votes from the other side; it’s about navigating a whole minefield of party politics. The Senate’s filibuster creates another hurdle. It’s not just a simple majority; they need more than a dozen Democrats to sign off on keeping the lights on for this surveillance program. And, oh joy, some Republicans aren’t even on board with Section 702. Senate Majority Leader John Thune threw in his two cents, saying Republicans will “do what’s necessary” to keep the program alive. Great. What a relief. So, will Trump’s request actually get anything done? Who knows. Sounds like a classic case of political theater, where the script is written by people who don’t really seem to care what the audience wants. But hey, at least it’s entertaining to watch from the sidelines.
