**Headline:** TMZ Goes After Congress: Vacation Photos vs. DHS Funding So, here we are. TMZ, yes, the same site that made a name by tracking celebrity missteps, has decided to turn its lens on Congress. Apparently, they think shaming lawmakers into cutting their recess short and funding the Department of Homeland Security is a worthy endeavor. Who knew they cared? One congressional aide, clearly thrilled, said they’re “super stoked” about this new attention. Because nothing screams accountability like a gossip site tracking your every move. They seem to think this will make lawmakers sharper and communications staff more “nimble.” Because we all know that’s what Congress needs—more pressure from a tabloid while the country’s facing a funding crisis. But let’s talk turkey. Some staffers aren’t exactly thrilled about their bosses being spotted at Disney World or casinos while the government’s in limbo. Senator Lindsey Graham was caught at Disney, while Rep. Robert Garcia was filmed in Las Vegas. Garcia claims he was visiting family, and Graham was quick to post selfies from South Carolina. Because nothing says “I’m working for the people” quite like a vacation photo. TMZ is out there hunting for pictures of lawmakers enjoying life anywhere but D.C., all while the DHS funding standoff stretches into the realm of the absurd—day 50, folks. They’ve snapped shots of Sen. Ted Cruz at a Florida airport and various House Republicans gallivanting in Scotland. Let’s not forget Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s excuse about “high-level meetings” with the Irish government. Right, because that’s what we want to hear while federal employees are left hanging. Meanwhile, TMZ’s founder seems to think this is all a moral crusade. He claims they’re using their platform to spotlight the struggles of TSA workers surviving without pay. It’s hard to believe any of this is going to shake Congress into action, but hey, at least it gives us something to roll our eyes at. So, will the celebrity treatment of Congress lead to any real change? Or is it just going to be another convenient distraction in a world where accountability seems to be on permanent vacation?
