### House GOP Plays Late-Night Poker with Your Privacy So, here we go again. House Republican leaders are pulling a classic late-night maneuver, striking a deal with their own rebels to extend the government’s foreign spying powers for another five years. But don’t worry, they’re throwing in some fancy language about warrants and tougher penalties for those pesky violations. Because, you know, that makes it all better. They dropped the text of this provision around 10:30 p.m., a solid seven hours after everyone was supposed to vote. Apparently, transparency is best served under the cover of darkness. Who needs a good night’s sleep when you can play fast and loose with civil liberties? It’s all very convenient. The same folks who claim to champion individual rights are now busy extending the government’s ability to snoop on you. And let’s not pretend that these “enhanced penalties” are anything but window dressing. We’ve seen this game before: slap on a few buzzwords and hope no one notices the power grab. Isn’t it cute how they think they can dress this up as a win for civil liberties? Meanwhile, the average American is left wondering how much more of their privacy is up for grabs while everyone else plays political chess. But hey, at least they made it sound good on paper, right? Do you ever get the feeling that your rights are just a bargaining chip in someone else’s late-night deal?
