Old Georgians reclaimed the English men’s indoor title winning a dramatic Super 6s final at Derby Arena with a stirring late show in the final.
They defeated Wimbledon after a 5–5 draw, securing the championship 2–0 in the shootout but only after they netted twice in the last two and a half minutes to earn their chance of landing their third successive title.
OGs opened the day with a 6-2 win over Oxted to reach the final against Wimbledon who were 6-3 winners over Surbiton.
In the decider, Wimbledon raced into a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes with Rory Patterson on fire with a couple of goals.
Old Georgians fought back to level at 3-3 in the third quarter but Ed Horler’s double put Wimbledon back in front 5-3 with time running out.
That was until Chris Griffiths scored a corner in the 38th minute and then Ashley Jackson brought the game to a shoot-out in the last minute.
In the shoot-out, George Pinner kept out one while Max Plennevaux’s effort hit the post; by contract, Old Georgians scored both of theirs with Jackson and then James Carson fired in the winner.
Old Georgians will represent England in the EuroHockey Club Cup in Sant Cugat in two weeks time before going outdoors to the EHL FINALS at Easter in Den Bosch.
