### Here We Go Again: GOP Shuffle for Senate Seat in Oklahoma
So, GOP Rep. Kevin Hern is throwing his hat in the ring for an open Senate seat in Oklahoma. This comes right after President Trump decided to nominate Sen. Markwayne Mullin to lead the Department of Homeland Security. Because, of course, what better way to ensure a smooth transition than to pick a sitting senator, right? It’s almost like they planned it.
Hern is the first big name to officially jump into this race, which is already on the ballot for this year. Apparently, Trump’s move was just what the doctor ordered to kick this thing into gear. Mullin’s stint at DHS was, let’s say, a mixed bag—filled with chaos and bad press, thanks to his handling of immigration. But hey, why not give him a promotion?
Now, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has 30 days to appoint someone to fill Mullin’s shoes until they can find a permanent replacement. But here’s the kicker: that interim senator can’t run for the full term. So, good luck finding someone who’s both qualified and willing to sit on the sidelines for the next election. With the Republicans barely holding onto their House majority, it makes perfect sense for Stitt to avoid appointing someone from the House.
In his campaign launch video, Hern is all about being a Trump loyalist, waving the “America First” banner. He’s already got some Senate bigwigs backing him, including Rick Scott, Jim Banks, and Ron Johnson. Because nothing says “trust me” like a bunch of politicians lining up behind you, right?
Hern has been in Congress since 2018, repping Oklahoma’s 1st District, which includes Tulsa. The deadline to file for this Senate seat is April 3, and the primary is set for June 16.
So, buckle up, folks. In the world of politics, it looks like it’s just another day, another shuffle. Who needs fresh ideas when you can just recycle familiar faces?
