### Why Is Congress on Vacation While the DHS Needs Attention?
So, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries thinks it’s a great idea to interrupt everyone’s comfy break and drag House Speaker Mike Johnson back to work. Why? Because the Department of Homeland Security is apparently in crisis mode. The government shutdown has been dragging on for over a month, and they’re still stuck on how to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) without making any real changes.
Sounds like a classic case of “we’ll get to it when we get to it,” doesn’t it? Lawmakers are busy debating funding without actually tackling the underlying issues.
But let’s not kid ourselves. The real question is why Congress is on a break when there are pressing matters at hand. Is it too much to ask them to earn their paychecks? Or is the vacation pay too good to pass up while the rest of us are left wondering what’s next?
In the meantime, it seems like the only thing getting reopened is the debate on who gets to decide when they’ll actually do their jobs.
