### GOP Circus: Lawmakers Take a Vacation While the Agenda Collects Dust House Republican leaders decided to pack it in and send everyone home for nearly two weeks after a handful of hard-liners threw a tantrum on the floor. Yes, you read that right. Instead of moving forward with their agenda, they’ve opted for an extra-long recess because, apparently, that’s how you solve political disputes. This little meltdown comes after a failed vote on a procedural rule, where 14 Republicans sided with Democrats to tank the GOP’s plans. Among them was Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who promptly suggested they might take another stab at it later. Spoiler alert: they won’t. Speaker Mike Johnson initially claimed they would work for “the next day-and-a-half” to get things back on track. But once it became clear that appeasing the rebels was a lost cause, they opted for an early July 4 break instead of trying to push through the Pentagon bill or the budget for 2027. Oh, and don’t forget the ceremonial resolution celebrating their crowning achievement—tax cuts. Because nothing says “we’re getting things done” like a nice, long vacation. The rebels’ grievances? They were mostly about that elusive SAVE America Act, which Trump insists is his top priority. Some, however, were miffed over a broken promise from Johnson about voting on immigration before the break. Rep. Chip Roy made it clear that not seeing any action on that front was “the main reason” he voted against the rule. Shocking, right? As if that wasn’t messy enough, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna demanded Johnson attach the SAVE America Act to the Pentagon bill—again, after he already tried and failed. Talk about a lack of coherence. Meanwhile, in the Senate, divisions among Republicans have stalled the bill, making it ripe for a Democratic filibuster. Trump, in a move that seems to be a recurring theme, canceled a major housing bill signing to pressure Congress. Funny how the threat of a Twitter storm can turn lawmakers into jelly. And just to sprinkle some extra chaos on this already shaky foundation, Rep. Jim McGovern from Massachusetts called the whole situation “unhinged.” Really, Jim? That’s the best you can do? Watching this cluster of confusion unfold is less like politics and more like a high school play gone off-script. So, what’s the takeaway here? While the GOP takes a vacation, their legislative agenda sits in limbo, and we’re left wondering: Is this really the best they can do?
