### Congress Can’t Get Its Act Together Again: DHS Funding Crisis Edition
Here we go again. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is in the hot seat, and Congress is about to play its favorite game: “Will They or Won’t They?” As the funding deadline looms at the end of the week, lawmakers are acting like it’s a surprise. Spoiler alert: it’s not.
With bipartisan talks fizzling out faster than a soda left open overnight, we’re witnessing the same old dance. Democrats are throwing down the gauntlet with 10 “guardrails” they want Congress to put in place. Because apparently, that’s what it takes to keep the lights on.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the irony here. The same folks who can’t seem to agree on basic funding are suddenly experts on what “guardrails” should look like. You’d think they’d be more concerned about their own performance rather than crafting fancy terminology to make it sound like they’re doing something.
And just like that, we’re supposed to believe this is all about protecting the American people. But don’t you wonder what’s conveniently missing from this whole debacle? Like, maybe the actual opinions of everyday Americans who are just trying to figure out how to pay their bills while their representatives squabble over budget lines.
In the end, are we really surprised? Congress has a talent for turning routine funding into a circus act. So, here’s a thought: how about they focus less on the theatrics and more on getting the job done? Just a wild idea.
