### “Here We Go Again: Democrats Cry Jim Crow Over Voter ID Laws” Rep. James Clyburn just can’t help himself. On Monday, he took the opportunity to label a Republican-backed voting requirement bill, pushed by none other than Trump, as a “throwback” to Jim Crow laws. Because, of course, equating modern voter ID requirements to the oppressive laws of the past is the easiest way to win an argument, right? The bill in question, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, has sparked Clyburn’s outrage, which he claims is reminiscent of the laws designed to disenfranchise Black voters after Reconstruction. But let’s pause for a moment. Is requiring identification really the same as preventing someone from voting based on skin color? That feels like a stretch worthy of a circus act. Instead of engaging with the actual content of the bill or the reasons it might be necessary—like, I don’t know, ensuring election integrity—Clyburn and his allies whip out the Jim Crow card. When did critical discussions about voter access get reduced to name-calling? It’s almost like they’re trying to distract from the real issues at hand. So, what’s the endgame here? Is it to stir up fear and rally the base? Because invoking Jim Crow sure gets attention, even if it doesn’t hold water. At this point, one has to wonder: are we really still using the same old playbook? Or is it just too convenient to let facts get in the way of a good narrative?
