### Congress Passes Another Band-Aid on Spy Powers: Who’s Surprised?
So, in the dead of night, Congress decided to kick the can down the road again. They managed to extend the nation’s spy powers—because, of course, we can’t have a lapse in surveillance—pushing the deadline from April 20 to April 30.
What’s the big deal, you ask? Well, some GOP rebels, feeling mighty rebellious, turned down a proposed five-year extension that came with a few reforms. Apparently, they weren’t swayed by the shiny promises tossed their way at the last minute. Maybe they just wanted to keep the drama alive.
It’s almost like lawmakers are playing a game of legislative chicken. They’d rather play with our privacy than actually make a decision. And here we are, again, left wondering if anyone in D.C. knows the meaning of “long-term planning.”
How many times can we go through this charade before someone realizes that a few extra days isn’t a real solution?
