### Here We Go Again: House Moves to Fund DHS with Zero Debate So, the House Rules Committee just gave a thumbs up to a plan that funds the entire Department of Homeland Security until May 22, and guess what? No real debate or separate vote on the actual spending bill. Just your standard political theater. In a meeting that sounded more like a schoolyard squabble than serious governance, the committee voted along party lines, 8-4. They decided to use a “deem and pass” maneuver, which lets them shove this legislation through without making it a big deal. Sure, there’ll be an hour of debate—because nothing says democracy like a token discussion before the fix is in. But don’t expect a standalone vote on how your tax dollars are spent. Rep. Jim McGovern, bless his heart, seems to be suffering from whiplash after listening to Republicans rant about the Senate’s sneaky vote on a different DHS funding measure. Apparently, the Senate’s late-night antics were “shameful” for lacking transparency. But when it comes to their own fast-tracked funding plan? Crickets. House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole threw some shade at the Senate, claiming they’re pulling stunts “in the middle of the night, with the smell of jet fumes in the air.” But hey, it looks like House leaders are taking a page from that same playbook by rushing through this eight-week stopgap. McGovern had the nerve to call out the Rules Chair Virginia Foxx, saying, “You’re in charge. You can do whatever the hell you want to do.” Well, isn’t that just the crux of it? So, here’s the million-dollar question: how is this any different from the chaos they’re complaining about?
