### Here We Go Again: More Spy Powers on the Table Skeptics of our government’s unchecked surveillance powers are back at it, trying to negotiate some “fresh language” with the White House. Apparently, a meeting with top Trump administration officials has sparked this renewed effort. Because nothing says “we respect your privacy” like drafting new ways to spy on you without a warrant. Lawmakers involved in these discussions claim they’re crafting something that shows “understanding and respect.” Translation: they’re putting a shiny new bow on the same old gift of intrusive surveillance. Because who wouldn’t want to trust the same institutions that have a track record of, let’s say, being a bit overzealous with their spying? With every new round of “reform,” you have to wonder what’s conveniently missing from the conversation. Are we really addressing the core issue here, or just giving the illusion of change? It’s like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic and calling it a new cruise experience. So, as we inch closer to another round of expanded surveillance powers, let’s just remember: if they’re so keen on respecting our privacy, why do they need to “update” their spying tools in the first place?
