### “VA Secretary Gets Dragged to Testify—Or Else!”
So, here’s the latest drama in Washington: Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins is being summoned to testify before House appropriators. Why? Because lawmakers decided to hold his funding hostage. If he doesn’t show up, 25% of his department’s operating budget is on the chopping block. Charming, isn’t it?
Rep. John Carter (R-Texas), who heads up the VA appropriations subcommittee, casually explained that the Trump administration was “just being ornery.” Quite the understatement when you think about it. So, we’ve got a guy who’s supposed to advocate for veterans, and instead, he’s being dragged through the mud because Congress thinks they can twist his arm.
You’d think this might raise some eyebrows about how our government treats its own. Collins has already had his Senate spotlight moment, but apparently, that wasn’t enough. Now he has to jump through more hoops just to keep the lights on at his department.
And let’s not forget, the VA spokesperson is MIA when it comes to commenting on this little debacle. It’s almost like they’re hoping we won’t notice the circus going on behind the scenes.
So, here’s a thought: if lawmakers are willing to play funding games with a department meant to support our veterans, what does that say about their priorities? It’s enough to make you wonder who’s really looking out for those who served.
