### “So, We’re Just Killing People Over Drugs Now?” The U.S. military took out three guys in a boat the other day, claiming they were drug traffickers in the eastern Pacific. According to Southcom, the boat was cruising along the usual drug routes and linked to some terrorist groups. Sounds dramatic, right? But let’s pause for a second. The military calls it a “strike,” but what does that really mean? Is it just a convenient way to justify blowing up a boat and its occupants? Because if they’re making this sound like a heroic mission, it raises a few eyebrows. What’s more, the military’s Twitter account—because, of course, that’s where we get our updates on serious operations—doesn’t bother to explain how they know all this. Just trust us, they say. It’s not like anyone has ever made a mistake in identifying a “bad guy” before. And here’s the kicker: while we’re busy patting ourselves on the back for taking out drug boats, can we talk about the actual drug problem? Or is that too inconvenient to mention? It’s a whole lot easier to launch missiles than to actually tackle the root issues. So, we’re left with this sanitized narrative of military action against “terrorists,” while the underlying chaos remains untouched. Just another day in the world where the U.S. military is the global drug enforcement agency. What could possibly go wrong?
