### Democrats Realize Ignoring Voters Isn’t Working
So, the Democrats are rolling out a new initiative called “Local Listeners” to woo back the million-plus voters who skipped out on the polls in 2024. This comes as they grapple with their identity in our not-so-favorite sequel to the Trump saga. Apparently, the party has finally noticed that sitting on the sidelines isn’t a winning strategy.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is now aiming for those who voted in 2020 but ghosted the ballot box last time around. Why? Well, they admit that a big part of their downfall was not losing to Trump but losing to the couch. Yep, you read that right. DNC Deputy Executive Director Libby Schneider stated that many of their key voters just didn’t bother to show up, and that’s a trend they can’t afford to let slide.
Their new plan involves training volunteers to actually listen to voters. Shocking concept, right? They want to engage those who might be fed up with the Biden administration’s economic decisions and its handling of international crises. Who’d have thought that listening would be a good idea?
Interestingly, this approach mirrors some of Trump’s successful tactics. He made a point to reach out to folks who hadn’t voted before, especially young men, and it paid off. Meanwhile, the Democrats are just now figuring out that they should have been doing the same thing.
DNC Chair Ken Martin believes that to regain the trust of voters, they need to start talking to them and not just waiting until the last minute. But here’s the kicker: Rima Mohammad, a member of the Michigan Democratic Party, isn’t so sure it’s not too late. She thinks this outreach should have happened right after Kamala Harris lost.
And let’s not forget Jenifer Fernandez Ancona from the liberal donor group Way To Win, who pointed out that the people who stayed home weren’t clueless—they just didn’t like what they heard. That’s a pretty brutal admission, highlighting how burned and cynical these voters have become.
This outreach marks one of the few times Democrats are openly acknowledging that they dropped the ball in 2024. After a year of internal squabbles about the party’s direction, they decided not to release a report on their losses, opting to focus instead on their victories from the following year. Classic move.
So, this new outreach is part of a larger effort for some self-reflection. Schneider says the DNC has been trying to figure out what they can do differently since their loss. But one has to wonder: why did it take so long to come to this conclusion?
Guess we’ll see if they actually get off the couch this time.
