### “Another Politician Bows Out: What Now?”
Rep. David Scott, a long-time fixture in Georgia politics, has passed away at 80. His colleague, Rep. Gregory Meeks, casually dropped the news during a committee meeting—because that’s how we handle these things now, apparently.
First elected back in 1974, Scott spent decades in the political arena, racking up 12 terms. He even made history as the first Black chair of the House Agriculture Committee in 2020. A nice little footnote in history, but one wonders how much that title means when you’re also facing criticism for running for reelection while your health is clearly in decline.
And let’s not overlook the irony here: while trying to juggle a $1.5 trillion farm bill, he was also preparing to campaign for another term in his Atlanta district. Talk about a full plate. It seems the folks in charge were more interested in keeping the status quo than recognizing when it’s time to step aside.
So, what’s the takeaway? A long political career doesn’t always mean you’re still fit for the job, and sometimes it takes a passing to highlight the absurd lengths politicians will go to cling to power. How many more will have to shuffle off before we start asking the real questions about who’s running the show?
