### Where’s Tom? Oh, Just a Minor Health Drama
Rep. Tom Kean Jr. has been MIA for a couple of months, and naturally, everyone’s buzzing about it. Now, after weeks of radio silence, he’s finally decided to pick up the phone and reassure his party that he’s still alive and kicking.
On Thursday, Kean started calling Republican county chairs in his district, which just happens to be one of the most hotly contested in the upcoming midterms. He also gave a “lengthy” interview to some local outlet — his first since he last voted back in March. Talk about a dramatic comeback tour.
Now, don’t get your hopes up. He’s still not spilling the beans on whatever illness has kept him out of the spotlight since early March. Sure, he claims he’s on the mend and insists it won’t affect his mental faculties. He’s also planning to run for reelection and promises to give us the full scoop on his health at some mysterious point in the future. Because nothing says transparency like keeping people in the dark, right?
Kean told the local press that his doctors are “confident” in his recovery. Isn’t that reassuring? Meanwhile, he’s been so out of touch that even his fellow New Jersey Republicans were scratching their heads about his absence. House Speaker Mike Johnson managed to chat with him last month, but it sounds like most of the party was in the dark.
After all this buildup, he finally called some local Republican chairs. They reported back that he sounded “normal.” How thrilling. But of course, nobody felt the need to pry into his health. Heaven forbid they actually ask what’s going on with their representative.
In the end, Kean is gearing up to return to voting and campaigning soon. Let’s just hope this “full recovery” of his doesn’t come with a side of political drama. It might be easier to buy a ticket to a reality TV show instead.
Maybe next time, he could save us all the mystery and just give a straight answer? Or is that too much to ask from a politician?
