### “Another Day, Another Republican Rant Against Muslims”
So here we go again. Rep. Andy Ogles took to social media on Monday to declare that Muslims have no place in America. Because, of course, who needs pluralism when you can just scream your bigotry into the void?
In a tweet that could easily win an award for most cringeworthy rhetoric, Ogles claimed, “Muslims don’t belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie.” You might think this is an isolated incident, but no—this guy has a history. He’s previously insisted that “America and Islam are incompatible” and has even proposed legislation to stop immigration from Muslim-majority countries. Just what we need: more walls, less nuance.
And for those who are curious about his motivations, Ogles pointed to an interview with Fox News where he blamed “mass Islamic immigration” for the downfall of America following a shooting in Austin. Because clearly, the only takeaway from a tragic incident is to blame an entire religion.
Meanwhile, as Republicans cozy up in Florida for their annual retreat, Ogles’ incendiary remarks might just serve as a distraction from their actual agenda. You know, because discussing policies is way less fun than throwing red meat to the base.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries didn’t hold back in response, calling Ogles a “malignant clown” and a “pathological liar.” Strong words, but does anyone really think this will shake Ogles’ convictions? He’s too busy pushing his “Halt Immigration from Countries with Inadequate Verification Capabilities Act,” which would block immigrants from several Muslim-majority nations. North Korea and Venezuela are also on that list—because why not?
Oh, and let’s not forget his buddy Rep. Randy Fine, who jumped on the bandwagon, insisting we need to protect America from “jihadists.” This is the same guy who implied dogs are better than Muslims. Classy, huh?
In the end, it’s just another day of political theater, where outrageous comments are the norm and actual governance takes a backseat. So, what’s next? More tweets and less talking? Sounds about right.
