### Let’s Just Call It What It Is: The Department of War
So, the Senate Armed Services Committee has decided to play a little game of rebranding and is moving to officially change the Pentagon’s name to the Department of War. Because why not? It’s not like we’re trying to hide our military ambitions or anything.
Sen. Tim Kaine has jumped into the fray, calling this shift a “juvenile move” that reflects a president who’s ditched diplomacy for a penchant for questionable wars. But let’s be real: since when did anyone in Washington care about diplomacy? The name change fits right in with the current administration’s strategy to flex its military muscles, and it’s not like Congress hasn’t been on board with that for ages.
Trump started this whole rebranding effort last year, and now it’s gaining traction. Republicans are eating it up, while the House Armed Services Committee has already given it a thumbs-up. And surprise, surprise, it passed along party lines. Because bipartisan support is so last year, right?
Of course, Congress needs to officially sign off on this name change for it to stick. So far, it looks like the stars are aligning, despite the Congressional Budget Office estimating it could cost around $125 million. But hey, if it sends a message to our so-called adversaries, why not splurge a little?
Let’s just hope they don’t plan on changing all the signage overnight. Can you imagine the chaos at military installations trying to update everything from letterheads to uniforms? Maybe we should just settle down and keep calling it the Pentagon. Isn’t that a bit simpler? Or are we just trying to make a point here?
