### Where’s Tom Kean? And Why Does It Matter? So, New Jersey Rep. Tom Kean Jr. has been MIA for almost three months due to some “undisclosed illness.” On Tuesday, he popped up to say he’s “more energized than ever.” Sounds great, but hang on—he’s still not giving us a timeline for when he’ll actually show up in the Capitol again. Transparency? More like selective visibility. We’re all supposed to feel reassured by his vague promise that he’ll share the details of his medical condition when he’s ready. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Tom. He seems to think that saying he’s focused on his recovery while preparing to return to “in-person work within a matter of weeks” is enough to quell the growing speculation. Spoiler alert: it’s not. Kean, who’s angling for a third term, is facing off against four Democrats in the primary while enjoying the luxury of no GOP challengers. Must be nice. His last vote was on March 5, and in a district that might actually be competitive this time around, his absence is raising eyebrows. Meanwhile, the press has turned into a pack of hounds, sniffing around for any sign of him. He did grant one interview since disappearing, claiming he’d be back on the campaign trail “in the next couple weeks.” But now, with his recent statement that he’ll take a few more weeks, it looks like he’s just bought himself some extra time. Democrats are licking their chops, especially with Trump’s popularity taking a hit. They’re feeling pretty confident about knocking Kean off his perch, especially given the Kean family’s long-standing political legacy in New Jersey. Oh, and let’s not forget that Trump decided to back Kean with a social media shout-out, saying he’s “working tirelessly.” Sounds nice, but isn’t it convenient that the endorsement comes just when Kean needs a boost? As for the Democratic challengers, they’re playing it safe, publicly wishing Kean a speedy recovery but privately grumbling about his radio silence. They must be thrilled to see him stumbling at such a crucial time. Kean claims to be focused on delivering results for New Jersey families—lowering costs, funding law enforcement, standing with Israel, and all that jazz. But will anyone care if he’s not there to back it up? So here’s a thought: if Kean is so energized, why doesn’t he just show up and prove it? Or is he just hoping we’ll all forget about him while he’s off recovering?
