### Another Day, Another Departure: Johnson’s Chief of Staff Bows Out So, Hayden Haynes is packing up his desk and leaving his gig as Speaker Mike Johnson’s chief of staff this June. And guess what? Johnson’s office is on it—confirmed and everything. In his place, Garrett Fultz, the deputy chief of staff, will step up. Because nothing says “smooth transition” like promoting from within, right? Now, Haynes has been with Johnson through thick and thin since he took the speakership back in 2023. They’ve tackled some big stuff together, like the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which—surprise, surprise—was touted as the crowning achievement of Donald Trump’s second term. The bill squeaked by the House with just one vote to spare last summer. So, not exactly a landslide victory, but hey, a win’s a win. Of course, Haynes’ tenure wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Remember that little DUI arrest he had back in March 2025? It just happened to coincide with Trump’s joint address to Congress. Talk about a bad night. He pleaded not guilty shortly after, which is always a popular move. But Johnson, ever the loyal boss, insisted on standing by his guy. “He’s trusted and respected,” he told reporters. Sure, buddy. So, as we prepare to say goodbye to Haynes, let’s reflect on this: Is it really a big deal when a chief of staff leaves after a bit of drama? Or is this just another day in the circus that is Washington?
