### “Another Fancy Dinner? Yawn.” So, the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was held again, and it seems like we’re all supposed to be excited about this annual exercise in self-congratulation. The author claims to have covered this event a dozen times — which sounds like a personal choice rather than a badge of honor. But here’s the kicker: they’ve never been under the table, gripping the carpet, trying to stay stable. Why? Because that’s where the real action is, apparently. Who knew the most riveting part of this shindig would be hiding under a table? Sounds like a metaphor for how most Americans feel about the media — always underfoot, trying to stay upright while the elite drink champagne and tell us how great they are. This dinner is essentially a fancy gathering where journalists and politicians pat each other on the back while pretending they’re the watchdogs of democracy. The real questions are never asked, and the people who might actually care about what’s going on are left outside, probably wondering why their dinner looks nothing like the one being served inside. So, what’s the takeaway here? Just another night of political theater, where the only thing getting roasted is the chicken. Meanwhile, the rest of us are left with cold leftovers. Isn’t it time we stopped pretending this is anything more than a glorified cocktail party?
