### Why Is Congress Wasting Time on Ghislaine Maxwell’s Pardon Talk? Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi is apparently concerned about the Justice Department’s cozy chats regarding a possible pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice. In a letter to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Krishnamoorthi pointed to a POLITICO piece where Maxwell’s lawyer, David Oscar Markus, claimed there’s a “good chance” she could wrangle a pardon from Donald Trump. Because, you know, that’s what we need to focus on right now. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in a sex trafficking operation, and the Supreme Court just shot down her appeal. So, with her options running out, a presidential pardon is the last lifeline. Trump hasn’t completely shut the door on the idea, which seems to have everyone in a tizzy. Markus, in his bid to help Maxwell, reached out to Blanche last year to set up a meeting. They had a two-day sit-down in Tallahassee, after which Maxwell was conveniently transferred to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Both Blanche and Markus claim this was because she was at risk in her previous location. Right, because that sounds perfectly normal. Krishnamoorthi is giving off serious “this is unacceptable” vibes, demanding assurances that the DOJ won’t entertain any pardon discussions with Maxwell. He also wants to see all communications related to this topic. Because nothing screams “transparency” like congressional letters and potential cover-ups. And, surprise surprise, the DOJ is silent on the matter. What a shocker! So while Congress is busy fretting over Maxwell’s potential pardon, one has to wonder: shouldn’t they be focusing on, oh I don’t know, actual pressing issues?
