### GOP’s Immigration Funding Plan: A Lot of Talking, Not Much Action So, the GOP is back at it again, trying to get their ducks in a row over immigration enforcement funding. Senate Majority Leader John Thune claims they’re working hard to make sure everyone in the party is on the same page. How reassuring! Thune wants the Senate to whip up a budget framework by next week. This is supposed to lead to a whopping $75 billion package for ICE and Border Patrol. Because, clearly, throwing more money at the problem has worked so well in the past, right? He envisions a smooth process where the House just nods along and passes whatever the Senate throws their way. Spoiler alert: that’s not how this usually goes. Remember, House Republicans just shot down the Senate’s last proposal to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Now, some House members are demanding that the funding covers the entire department, not just the parts they think Democrats will oppose. That’s rich coming from folks who can’t seem to agree on anything. Lindsey Graham, the Senate Budget Chair, is also in the mix, saying they’re trying to get consensus on this budget framework soon. But let’s face it, “soon” in politics is like saying “next week” when you really mean “never.” They’re even chatting with the chamber’s parliamentarian, which sounds official but probably just means they’re trying to figure out how to shove this plan through without too much fuss. Meanwhile, the DHS has been in limbo since February. So, as the GOP pretends to rally around this plan, one has to wonder: Is anyone actually buying this unity act? Or is it just a fancy way to kick the can down the road?
