### Republicans Finally Figure Out How to Fund DHS – After Five Weeks of Stalling So, after wasting five weeks, Senate Republicans think they’ve cracked the code to end the Department of Homeland Security shutdown. After a cozy chat with Trump, Sen. Katie Britt from Alabama confidently announced, “We do” have a solution. Great, but we’ve heard that before, haven’t we? Britt and a few of her Senate pals—Graham, Daines, and Moreno—met with Trump to float a plan that would fund most of DHS while conveniently leaving out certain parts of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Because, you know, why fund everything when you can pick and choose? Graham was quick to share the news that Trump might actually be open to a reconciliation bill now, despite having shot it down just a day earlier. That’s right, folks. The president is flip-flopping faster than a politician at a fundraiser. But let’s be honest, even if they manage to get something passed, it’s still going to be a Herculean task to align Senate Republicans, the House, and the White House on any plan. Here’s where it gets even better: Republicans are contemplating using reconciliation to fund ICE and also push through their pet project, the SAVE America Act. Because what’s a funding deal without a little bit of political maneuvering? But hold your horses; nothing’s set in stone until Trump gives the thumbs-up. Senators are suddenly optimistic, with some claiming they’ll have a deal by the end of the week. Can you believe it? This is like watching a soap opera where the plot keeps changing but the characters remain the same. Meanwhile, Democrats are trying to throw a wrench into the plans by insisting they’ll only fund parts of DHS in exchange for some immigration reforms. It’s almost as if they think they have a say in this. So, with both sides playing tug-of-war over funding and reforms, we’re left wondering: after all this time, are they really going to strike a deal? Or is this just another round of political theatre where everyone walks off stage with nothing but empty promises?
