### “So, Bombing Boats Will Fix Our Drug Problem, Right?” General Francis L. Donovan, head honcho at U.S. Southern Command, just dropped a truth bomb during a hearing on Capitol Hill. Spoiler alert: blowing up boats isn’t going to solve America’s drug crisis. Who would’ve guessed? When Senator Mark Kelly asked the general for some solid evidence backing up the military’s flashy boat-striking strategy against drug smugglers, it was like watching a magician reveal the trick. The answer? Well, it turns out there isn’t much evidence at all. Shocking, I know. Instead of actual solutions, we get more military strikes, as if taking out a few boats is going to magically erase the demand for drugs in the U.S. This seems like just another case of throwing money at the problem while hoping something sticks, all while ignoring the root causes of addiction and trafficking. But then again, who needs a thoughtful approach when you can just drop some bombs? So, let’s recap: We’re supposed to believe that military might can curb drug trafficking. But if that’s the case, why does it feel like we’re just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic? Maybe next time we should try a different strategy—like actually listening to the communities affected or, heaven forbid, addressing why people turn to drugs in the first place. But hey, let’s just keep the military busy, right? What could possibly go wrong?
