### “So We’re Just Gonna Pretend DHS Needs a Hero?” Senator Thom Tillis from North Carolina thinks Senator Markwayne Mullin from Oklahoma is the knight in shining armor we need to save the Department of Homeland Security. Apparently, Mullin is going to swoop in, wave a magic wand, and “restore competence” to an agency that’s been a hot mess for years. But let’s pause for a second. What does it even mean to “restore competence”? Is that code for more of the same bureaucratic chaos? Because if history has taught us anything, it’s that a new face doesn’t automatically fix a broken system. Sure, Tillis is gushing about Mullin being a “great guy,” which is lovely and all, but what about qualifications? Competence isn’t a personality trait; it’s a skill set. It would be nice if someone asked what Mullin actually plans to do instead of just assuming a change of personnel will magically fix the myriad of issues at DHS. And while we’re at it, where’s the skepticism? How about a little scrutiny on the motives behind this “great choice”? It’s not like there’s a shortage of political games being played here. Just because someone is a Republican doesn’t mean they’re automatically a qualified leader. So, here’s the kicker: Are we really expected to believe that Mullin’s appointment is all about competence, or is it just the latest move in a never-ending game of political chess? Because if it’s the latter, we might want to buckle up for another round of the same old nonsense.
