**Headline:** Another One Bites the Dust: Georgia Rep. Calls It Quits Amid Tough Times for GOP Georgia Rep. Barry Loudermilk is throwing in the towel and won’t be running for reelection. Shocking, I know. He’s the latest Republican to head for the exits as it looks like midterms are shaping up to be, well, less than ideal for the GOP. In his farewell message, Loudermilk claims he’s stepping back to “spend more dedicated time with my family.” Because nothing says “I’m still popular” quite like needing to focus on family after a decade in Congress. You’ve got to wonder what’s really going on when someone with “strong support” suddenly decides it’s family time. In a delightful twist of timing, Loudermilk’s retirement comes just as his subcommittee is ramping up the investigation into the January 6 Capitol riot. You know, that little event that still has everyone in a tizzy. They’re digging into phone records related to those pipe bombs that mysteriously appeared outside party headquarters before the chaos. Seems like some serious work might be getting a little too hot to handle. Republicans are still banking on keeping Loudermilk’s seat in suburban Atlanta, where he won by a staggering 34 points in 2024. But the fact remains, he’s just another name on a growing list of House Republicans who’ve decided to jump ship this cycle. Since 2025 kicked off, a whopping 33 other House Republicans have either resigned, announced they’re retiring, or are off chasing other political dreams. So, what’s the takeaway here? Maybe it’s time for the GOP to take a long, hard look in the mirror. Or perhaps they’re just tired of being the punchline in a bad joke.
