**Congress is Stuck Again: Immigration Funding Drama or Just More Theater?** Congress is once again playing a game of chicken over immigration funding, with a deadline looming and the usual partisan squabbling on full display. They’ve got nine days to figure out what to do about President Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda, or risk another government shutdown—because that’s exactly what we need right now. So, what’s the hold-up? Apparently, lawmakers were just hanging around waiting for the House to play nice and pass some spending bills. Now, the deadline is creeping up, and Democrats are throwing a tantrum about extending any temporary measures. How very mature. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is getting ready to unveil some demands that sound more like a wishlist than a serious proposal. He wants more oversight on ICE and Customs and Border Protection, including tighter rules on warrants and—wait for it—banning masks for agents. Because nothing says “we want to keep you safe” like forcing federal agents to show their faces in a world where they might need anonymity. On the other side, Republicans are rolling their eyes. Speaker Mike Johnson thinks making agents unmask is a recipe for disaster. He’s also not too keen on adding “judicial warrants” into the mix, calling it “unimplementable.” Nice to see some politicians are still in touch with reality. Senate Majority Leader John Thune thinks it’s mainly a Democrat-White House affair from here on out, but hey, the Republicans will throw in their two cents. They want to crack down on “sanctuary cities” and might even try to tack on stricter penalties for illegal border crossings. But that’s a non-starter for Democrats, who claim they’re just trying to keep people safe. Sure, let’s ignore the fact that “sanctuary cities” often create more problems than they solve. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has already said “no thanks” to any more short-term funding resolutions, which could really throw a wrench in the works. Lawmakers are growing increasingly doubtful that they’ll come to any agreement. Senator Josh Hawley is feeling skeptical, too. He’s not convinced that shoving a bunch of rules into a critical funding bill is the way to go. Thune is also warning that if this drags on, they might end up passing a measure that just keeps everything as is at DHS—because who doesn’t love a good status quo? And just to keep things interesting, Congress is also holding a tech hearing about Europe’s regulations, which Republicans say are silencing conservative voices online. Because why not pile on more drama while they’re at it? So, what’s the takeaway? Congress is once again proving that when it comes to immigration policy, they’d rather squabble than actually solve problems. So, is anyone really surprised we’re stuck in this mess?
