### Headline: Bill Gates Claims He Didn’t Know Epstein Was a Criminal—Sure, Jan.
Bill Gates recently faced off with Congress, insisting he was clueless about Jeffrey Epstein’s shady dealings, despite keeping the guy in his orbit for years after Epstein got tagged for sex crimes in 2008.
During a long-winded session with the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Gates reiterated that he never sought a personal friendship with Epstein and shot down any suggestions he might have been interested in Epstein’s advances. Well, that’s comforting.
Gates declared, “I never witnessed nor had any indication that Epstein was engaged in ongoing criminal conduct.” Nice phrase, but “not knowing” when you’ve got a history of hanging out with a convicted sex offender raises a few eyebrows. He even claimed he never set foot on Epstein’s infamous island or any of his other properties. But hey, those photos of them together? Just a coincidence, right?
He met Epstein in 2011 because Epstein supposedly had the magic touch for pulling in big donors for global health projects. Gates admitted he didn’t do his homework on Epstein’s checkered past before shaking his hand. Classic move.
Then there’s the kicker: Gates claims he cut ties in 2014 when it became evident that Epstein’s promised donors were all talk. But wait, it gets juicier. Gates revealed that Epstein had some “sensitive information” about his personal life and tried to use that to get Gates back on the hook. So, he’s saying Epstein was a manipulator? Shocking.
Gates isn’t facing any accusations, but the fact that someone with his clout could be so naïve (or just careless) about who he associates with is a little hard to swallow. Isn’t it convenient that he suddenly realized it was a bad idea to keep company with a notorious criminal—after years of doing just that?
So, what’s the lesson here? Maybe keep your distance from shady characters, especially when they’ve got a rap sheet longer than your arm. But, of course, it’s easy to say that in hindsight.
