### America’s 250th Birthday: The Sky Isn’t Falling, But Good Luck Finding the Cake So, here we are, nearly at the big 2-5-0 for America, and guess what? We’re apparently facing the “greatest threat” to our nation since the Civil War. Cue the dramatic music and the urgent op-eds. But let’s pause for a second. What does that even mean? The usual suspects are saying we’re in dire straits. The political landscape is a mess, people can’t agree on anything, and social media is full of outrage, as if that’s anything new. It’s like they’ve forgotten that America has always had its ups and downs. Yet, here we are, treated to a narrative that suggests we’re on the brink of collapse. Really? And let’s talk about this so-called threat. Is it the economy? Polarization? Maybe it’s the climate? Who knows? It’s all wrapped up in vague terms designed to stir up fear. What’s missing from this alarmist rhetoric are actual solutions or a discussion about why we keep hearing these same doomsday predictions. Instead of offering common-sense solutions, we get hand-wringing and finger-pointing. It’s as if acknowledging our country’s resilience is too hopeful, too optimistic. And don’t get me started on the double standards. You’d think some folks enjoy the chaos more than they want to fix it. So, as we gear up to celebrate this milestone, we should probably take a moment to reflect: Is the sky really falling, or are we just being sold another round of panic? Maybe it’s time to stop listening to the drama queens and start paying attention to what really matters. Where’s the cake, anyway?
