After Venezuela and its oil, which country and resources will the United States set its sights on next? In the aftermath of the controversial US military intervention on 2 and 3 January, which led to the arrest and extraction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores to the United States – where Maduro is to be tried for “narco-terrorism,” among other charges – uncertainty reigns among the country’s neighbours.

In Europe, all eyes are on Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory coveted by the White House since Donald Trump‘s return to power in 2025. Trump has reiterated his threats of annexation, prompting Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen to respond by calling for respect for international law. Several European countries have already expressed their support for Denmark, reiterating its sovereignty over the island and the freedom of its people.
