**Headline:** Senate Stuck in Endless Loop of Nonsense While Voters Wait for Real Solutions Looks like the Senate has decided to throw a little weekend work into the mix. Majority Leader John Thune is keeping everyone at the Capitol to hash out an elections bill that’s as good as dead and push through some nominees. Senators may even have to grind through the next weekend too, because apparently, the Department of Homeland Security can’t figure out how to keep the lights on. A GOP senator didn’t sugarcoat it: “I’m not excited about it.” Shocking. As for the Senate’s Friday plans? They’re gearing up to vote on a DHS funding bill that everyone knows is going to flop. And don’t miss the drama on Saturday when they’ll likely take a swing at the SAVE America Act amendment, which would bar transgender women from competing in women’s sports. This little gem comes straight from Trump, but don’t hold your breath; it’s probably not going to hit the magic 60 votes because Democrats are likely united in their “no” votes. Keep an eye on which Republicans decide to cross party lines—that should be entertaining. Then there’s Chuck Schumer’s procedural maneuver to force a vote on something vaguely related to TSA funding. Spoiler alert: it probably won’t pass either. But that won’t stop Republicans from trying to put a stop to it before Saturday rolls around. Sunday brings the excitement of Sen. Markwayne Mullin’s nomination for DHS secretary. After clearing a committee vote, he’s got a pretty clear path to confirmation—unless Rand Paul decides to throw a wrench in the works. Just remember, Democrats are watching closely. Only one Democrat, John Fetterman, has shown any willingness to back him. And if you thought next week would bring some relief, think again. Thune says no two-week recess if they can’t hammer out a DHS deal. “We’ll find out very quickly if the Dems want to make a deal,” he claims. But good luck with that. A bipartisan group met with the White House and came away with zero progress, leaving us all to wonder if any of these folks actually know how to negotiate. So, will they ever get it together? Or are we just going to watch this circus play out while real issues pile up on the back burner?
