### “Top Gun Fundraiser? Probably Not the Best Timing Right Now”
So, Rep. Zach Nunn decided to hit pause on his “Top Nunn” fundraiser with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. You know, the one that was scheduled to kick off just hours after the U.S. and Israel started launching airstrikes in Iran. Timing is everything, right?
Nunn took to social media to announce the postponement, which came after the Pentagon confirmed the first U.S. casualties in this latest conflict—six soldiers taken out by an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait. Conveniently, two of those soldiers were from Iowa, right in Nunn’s backyard.
Naturally, the Democrats jumped on this like a hawk. They labeled the whole event as “callous and disqualifying” because, apparently, holding a military-themed fundraiser while troops are dying is in poor taste. Who knew?
Nunn, a former Air Force intelligence officer, offered his condolences to the families of the fallen in his social media post. He claims he plans to attend the repatriation of the soldiers’ remains at Dover Air Force Base alongside none other than Donald Trump. A real display of respect, or just good optics? You decide.
He also took a moment on the House floor to honor the six soldiers, leading a moment of silence. Because nothing says “we care” like a quick speech after the fact.
So, what’s the takeaway here? Maybe it’s time to rethink the whole “salute to the troops” vibe when there are actual troops coming home in body bags. But hey, what do I know?
