**Headline:** Texas Rep. Claims “Nothing to See Here” After Affair with Staff Member Who Took Her Life Tony Gonzales, the Texas Congressman who just can’t seem to stay out of hot water, has finally confessed to having a sexual relationship with a former staff member, Regina Santos-Aviles. This revelation comes after her tragic suicide last year, which he insists he had nothing to do with. Sure, buddy, because that makes total sense. In a radio chat, Gonzales admitted he “made a mistake” and had a “lapse in judgment.” He’s taking “full responsibility” — which sounds nice, but doesn’t quite cut it when you’re talking about a life lost. Oh, and by the way, he’s married. But who cares about that little detail, right? Just hours after his confession, congressional investigators recommended that the House Ethics Committee take a closer look at him for potentially breaking House rules. You know, the rules that are supposed to keep things above board? Gonzales claims he’ll cooperate with the investigation. How noble. This all comes on the heels of a runoff election against Brandon Herrera, a self-proclaimed “AK Guy” and media personality, which Gonzales was pushed into after some of his Republican pals suggested he should just pack it up and resign. It’s almost like they can’t stand the heat when the spotlight is on their own. Gonzales had previously denied any wrongdoing, but now he’s accused of trying to pressure Santos-Aviles into sending explicit photos. That’s a real classy move, Tony. And let’s not forget that Santos-Aviles died by suicide after setting herself on fire — a horrific act that’s being discussed in the context of this relationship. Gonzales claims her death had “absolutely nothing to do with” their affair. You can almost hear the eye-rolls from here. He insists that she was “thriving” at work before her death, which sounds like a convenient narrative to spin when you’re trying to dodge responsibility. The truth? We’ll likely never know the full story, especially with so much conveniently missing. So, what’s the takeaway here? A Congressman admits to an affair with a staff member, claims it’s not his fault she’s dead, and then expects us to just move on. Sounds about right in politics today. What’s next, Tony? A heartfelt Instagram post?
