Shreyas Iyer departed cheaply in the second ODI between India and New Zealand at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, January 14. The right-handed batter departed for just eight runs off 17 balls as India lost their third wicket for 115.

The dismissal came in the 22nd over of India’s innings. Kristian Clarke bowled a length ball outside off-stump, and Iyer tried to go over the infield but played it straight to the Kiwi captain Michael Bracewell at mid-off. The Indian vice-captain perished after facing five dot balls on a trot, succumbing to pressure.

Watch Shreyas Iyer’s wicket below:

It was Clarke’s second wicket, having dismissed Rohit Sharma for 24 off 38 balls to provide the first breakthrough for the tourists by breaking the 70-run opening stand.

Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli depart in quick succession as Kristian Clarke helps New Zealand bounce back against India in the 2nd ODI

Led by Kristian Clarke, a clinical bowling display helped New Zealand bounce back against India in the second ODI. Clarke dismissed Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli in his consecutive overs, removing the latter for 23 off 29 balls.

At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 119/4 after 23.4 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul at the crease. The duo will now look to build a partnership and help the hosts post a decent total.

Earlier in the day, skipper Shubman Gill top-scored with 56 off 53 deliveries, including one six and nine fours.

The Kiwis are playing a must-win match after losing the series opener in Vadodara by four wickets. They have never won an ODI series in India despite touring the country eight times. The Men in Blue completed a 3-0 clean sweep in their last meeting in 2023. They will now look to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Having said that, India have only managed to win one out of their four ODIs at the venue in Rajkot.
