### Here We Go Again: D.C. Mayor Thinks Curfews Will Fix Underage Crime
So, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has decided that the best way to tackle underage crime is to slap a curfew back on kids. Because nothing says “let’s solve this problem” like telling young people to be in their homes by 11 PM.
Starting tonight, if you’re under 18, it’s 11 PM for you, and in certain areas—likely the ones where things get a bit rowdy—the curfew is even earlier at 8 PM. Thanks for the heads-up, Chief of Police, we’re sure that’ll do the trick.
Let’s break it down: Mayor Bowser thinks that restricting when kids can be out and about is the magic bullet to stop crime and disorderly conduct in the city. But isn’t this just a Band-Aid on a much bigger issue? If you can’t figure out why kids are getting into trouble, maybe imposing a curfew isn’t the answer.
What’s missing from all this? Any real conversation about the root causes of underage crime. But hey, it’s a lot easier to just keep kids off the streets than to tackle the actual problems driving them there in the first place.
Here’s a thought: instead of curfews, how about investing in community programs that actually engage kids? But that would require effort and money, and where’s the fun in that?
So, are we really going to pretend this is a solution? Or is it just another round of political theater to make it look like something is being done?
