### House Republicans Meeting at the Pentagon: Just Another Day in Military Spending Drama So, a bunch of senior House Republicans decided to gather at the Pentagon to hash out military funding. They brought along Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for what’s being dubbed “Reconciliation 3.0.” Sounds fancy, right? Everyone’s buzzing because just days before, Trump signed off on a GOP-only immigration funding bill. Now, he’s demanding a cool $350 billion for the Pentagon amidst the chaos with Iran. This guy clearly knows how to keep the cash flowing, doesn’t he? House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington chimed in post-meeting, explaining that the budget aligns with Trump’s Twitter musings. He talked about replenishing resources for troops in conflict and ensuring “future readiness.” Translation: they want to throw a big chunk of change at modernizing the military. Sounds like a classic one-time splurge, doesn’t it? Arrington also mentioned the idea of using savings from the war on fraud to offset military spending, so they can pretend they aren’t increasing the deficit. Clever, right? Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader John Thune is playing the cautious card, pointing out that even the most enthusiastic supporters of Trump’s election measure know it’s not likely to pass under the strict rules of budget reconciliation. He’s not committing to anything, really; it’s all very “we’ll see.” In short, we’ve got a big show of military spending and political maneuvering, all while pretending that things are just fine and dandy with the budget. Isn’t it comforting to know that while they’re at the Pentagon, they’re really just kicking the can down the road? What’s next, a bake sale to fund the next war?
