### “Congress Wants to Grill a Former Banker About His Creepy Friend”
So, here we go again. James Comer, the Chair of the House Oversight Committee, is dragging Jes Staley, a former bigwig at JPMorgan and Barclays, into the spotlight to chat about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Yeah, the convicted sex offender. In a letter that sounds more like an invitation to a dentist appointment than a serious inquiry, Comer says they think Staley has some juicy tidbits that could help their investigation.
Staley’s ties to Epstein aren’t exactly a secret. Federal prosecutors have been sniffing around for ages, trying to untangle the mess of Epstein’s associates ever since he kicked the bucket. Apparently, Staley even pushed to keep Epstein as a JPMorgan client after Epstein had already confessed to soliciting minors. Real classy move, huh?
Now, JPMorgan is suing Staley over claims that he put his interests and Epstein’s ahead of the bank’s, which is a delightful twist considering they were already in hot water over accusations of enabling Epstein’s abuse. Staley, naturally, is fighting back, claiming JPMorgan is just using him as a “public relations shield.” Funny how that works.
By the way, Staley decided to step down from Barclays in 2021 because, surprise surprise, people started asking questions about his cozy relationship with Epstein.
So, will Congress finally get to the bottom of this tangled mess? Or will it just turn into another round of political theater? At this rate, it feels like we’re all just waiting for the next episode of “Who Knew What and When?”
