### Headline: “No Pardon for Maxwell? Don’t Hold Your Breath.”
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche decided to take a firm stance on Ghislaine Maxwell, saying the Justice Department won’t recommend a pardon for the Epstein associate currently serving a hefty 20-year sentence for her role in sex trafficking. Great, right? But let’s not forget who’s actually in charge of pardons: President Trump, who conveniently hasn’t closed the door on the idea.
Maxwell’s attorney is already gearing up to plead for clemency, claiming a pardon is on the table. So, in reality, we’re left wondering if Blanche’s words are just an elaborate game of smoke and mirrors.
Interestingly, Blanche had a two-day tête-à-tête with Maxwell last summer where she, shockingly, claimed she never witnessed Trump acting inappropriately and even praised his “extraordinary achievement.” That’s quite the endorsement—right before she got shuffled off to a minimum security camp, which some critics see as a cushy reward. Blanche defended this transfer, citing safety concerns. Sure, because nothing says “danger” like a cozy prison camp.
Meanwhile, in the Senate, Blanche faced some heat from Sen. Patty Murray over the DOJ’s blunders in releasing Epstein files that exposed victims’ identities and even nude images. Oops! Blanche acknowledged the screw-up, admitting that they failed victims by releasing sensitive information. But hey, it was all thanks to Congress’s demands to publish a mountain of documents in record time. Apparently, reviewing six million documents in 30 days is a piece of cake—if you don’t mind making a few mistakes along the way.
So, Blanche says they take responsibility. How reassuring! But with all these moving parts, does anyone really believe that Maxwell won’t get a last-minute reprieve? After all, this is politics we’re talking about.
